Car washes will usually have strong warnings about potential damage to your vehicle this often include warnings of how you need to prepare your vehicle before using the car wash. It is normal for them to exclude themselves from liability where there is damage to your vehicle.

There is a duty of care for them to wash your cars with care and skill. As long as you have followed the instructions correctly then they will have breached their legal duty if the machine has malfunctioned.

If this is the case they will be responsible for any damage to your vehicle.
